A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RA 8976: PHILIPPINE FOOD FORTIFICATION ACT IN TAYTAY, RIZAL
WHEREAS, Republic Act 8976, also known as the Philippine Food Fortification Act, mandates the fortification of staple food products with essential vitamins and minerals to address micronutrient deficiencies in our population;
WHEREAS, micronutrient deficiencies pose significant health risks and can lead to various adverse outcomes, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly;
WHEREAS, the Municipality of Taytay recognizes the importance of ensuring access to fortified food products to improve the nutritional status and overall well-being of our residents;
WHEREAS, the Municipal Nutrition Action Office has conducted an assessment of the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies in our municipality and deems it necessary to promote the adoption and compliance with the Philippine Food Fortification Act;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, by the 12th Sangguniang Bayan of Taytay, Rizal, in session duly assembled, hereby ADOPTS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RA 8976: PHILIPPINE FOOD FORTIFICATION ACT IN TAYTAY, RIZAL.
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Municipal Health Office, in coordination with the Municipal Nutrition Action Office, shall take the lead in implementing activities and initiatives to ensure compliance with the Philippine Food Fortification Act, including but not limited to:
1. Collaborating with food producers, manufacturers, and retailers to promote the fortification of staple food products such as rice, flour, cooking oil, and other relevant food items with essential vitamins and minerals;
2. Conducting public awareness campaigns to educate our residents about the importance of consuming fortified food products and the benefits of micronutrient supplementation for overall health;
3. Facilitating training and capacity-building programs for local food producers to enhance their understanding and adherence to fortification standards and guidelines;
4. Monitoring and evaluating the quality control of fortified food products available in our municipality to ensure compliance with the Philippine Food Fortification Act;
5. Establishing partnerships with educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community organizations to promote nutrition education and encourage the consumption of fortified foods; and
6. Regularly assessing and reporting on the progress of food fortification initiatives and the impact on the nutritional status of our residents.
RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this Resolution be furnished to the Municipal Mayor, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Nutrition Action Office, and other concerned departments and agencies for their information and necessary action.
