Resolution No. 309 series of 2023

A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RA 8172: AN ACT FOR SALT IODIZATION NATIONWIDE (ASIN LAW) IN TAYTAY, RIZAL

WHEREAS, Republic Act 8172, also known as An Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide (ASIN Law), mandates the iodization of salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders and promote better health;

WHEREAS, iodine deficiency disorders can have severe consequences on the physical and cognitive development of individuals, particularly children and pregnant women;

WHEREAS, the Municipality of Taytay recognizes the importance of ensuring access to adequately iodized salt for the well-being and nutritional needs of our residents;

WHEREAS, the Municipal Nutrition Action Office has assessed the current availability and consumption of iodized salt in our municipality and finds it necessary to strengthen efforts to promote the use of iodized salt;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, by the 12th Sangguniang Bayan of Taytay, Rizal, in session duly assembled, hereby ADOPTS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RA 8172: AN ACT FOR SALT IODIZATION NATIONWIDE (ASIN LAW) IN TAYTAY, RIZAL.

RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Municipal Health Office, in coordination with the Municipal Nutrition Action Office, shall take the lead in implementing activities and initiatives to ensure compliance with the ASIN Law, including but not limited to:

1. Conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of iodized salt in preventing iodine deficiency disorders;
2. Encouraging local salt producers, distributors, and retailers to comply with the mandatory iodization requirements set forth in the ASIN Law;
3. Monitoring and enforcing the quality control of iodized salt products available in our municipality to ensure their proper iodine content;
4. Collaborating with salt industry stakeholders, such as salt producers, trade associations, and cooperatives, to promote the production and distribution of adequately iodized salt;
5. Establishing partnerships with educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community organizations to disseminate information on the benefits of iodized salt and promote its use in cooking and food preparation; and
6. Regularly assessing and reporting on the progress of iodized salt consumption and compliance with the ASIN Law in our municipality.

RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this Resolution be furnished to the Municipal Mayor, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Nutrition Action Office, and other concerned departments and agencies for their information and necessary action.

ADOPTED, this 18th day of October 2023, 6:22 PM at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, Municipality of Taytay, Province of Rizal.
